Contemporary styling with advanced technological features, the Seiko Kinetic watch is the world’s first quartz watch powered by human movement. By the simple movement of your wrist, a very efficient capacitor charges itself. Once the capacitor is fully charged, it captures and stores energy for up to six months. Kinetic- the most advanced electronic watch technology. Environmentally friendly. Features include- Black Ion Finish case and bracelet, black dial with date display, one way rotating elapsed timing bezel and screwdown see thru caseback, and water-resistance to 330 feet.

Kinetic: A powerhouse in technological innovation

Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.

It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of 'AGM', it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide. From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007).

In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the 'at-rest' operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO's mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched. At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO's emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

5 out of 5 stars A watch anyone would love!   March 10, 2010
Mr. Draper (DENVER, CO, US)
Imagine, if you will, a world where there is only one watch dealer with a store in every mall and row upon row of only one watch on display for every man, woman and child - the Seiko Kinetic Black Ion watch. This is the world I envision. Yes, the Seiko Kinetic Black Ion watch should be the official watch for all the people of planet earth!

This watch is heavy, which I like, but not cumbersome or clunky. It feels comfortable, solid and substantial - and it's extremely handsome to boot! It's readable at a glance which was essential to me and the very bright luminous dial finishes off this practical and attractive package. I know it's going to be sturdy in the long term because of the of the reviews by our military guys in Kuwait and Iraq and, of course, it's a Seiko. Thanks, guys, for your service and your reviews!

Of course, I'm being somewhat facetious in the first part of my review, but hey, my point is that anyone would love this watch! I do! This my favorite watch!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful watch   March 5, 2010
J Ken Kuzenski (Raleigh, NC USA)
I was concerned that this watch might be a little too big or heavy for me, but I bought it from a vendor with a good return policy (and one who's also a Seiko authorized dealer--that's VERY important, IMO.) The watch actually feels fine--not too big or too heavy at all. I love the higly readable hands and markers; no problem reading THIS watch quickly, in any light. (The "lume" on the hands and markers is excellent in low/no light.) The watch is really attractive IMO, and so far it's keeping perfect time. I love the idea of not needing a battery replacement every couple of years. The SKA389 is, IMO, a superb watch and a bargain at the price.

One note: I bought what turned out to be a "Feiko"--a counterfeit Seiko--from a big web vendor, and had to throw it away when it broke within a few months. Do yourself a favor, follow Seiko's advice, and BUY A SEIKO ONLY FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. Turns out there are a LOT of "Feikos" out there.

4 out of 5 stars Great overall watch, not a huge fan of the band   February 23, 2010

I just received this watch a few days ago, so my review is based mostly off first impressions. Please take what I say with a grain of salt.

I was looking for a watch that had some class and distinct styling to it, but I wanted a weekend watch as well. This watch definitely fit the bill. It can be "dressed up" or "dressed down", depending on how you want to look. The dial is very readable and pleasant to look at.

My personality is such that I hate any kind of bling. I hate shiny-ness or over the top decor. The watch itself is fine in this regard, but my biggest gripe is with the band. I don't think the images accurately depict the band. The band has some shiny accents, which I personally felt was a bit much. The picture gave me the impression of a more matte/dulled steel finish, but after holding the watch in my hand, this wasn't really the case. For some people, this may be a good thing, but I personally would have liked the shiny-ness toned down a couple of notches.

The watch seems to keep very good time, although I haven't accurately counted it down the second. The kinetic mechanism appears to be solid. When shaking the watch in your hand to charge the battery, you can actually hear the weight from the inside of the watch moving around. But when walking or casually moving your arms, the sound is not audible.

The watch definitely has some weight to it, which I personally think is a good thing. This watch comes off as being a watch-lovers watch, in the sense that you can really feel it as a part of you. The shape of the watch offers a masculine and rugged appearance, but not so over the top that it will give the impression you are overly insecure about your manhood. The black color was one of the main reasons I was drawn to the watch (along with the price), and it looks quite sharp.

The red touch on the moving bezel is quite tasteful. The glow-in-the-dark hands/numbers are fine, although I wouldn't recommend it for use when camping. The clasp is sturdy and well made.

If you are looking for a watch you can wear to work, but still keep on when hanging out drinking beers with your buddies, this watch is great. In terms of quality and form factor, it doesn't get much better than Seiko. Just keep in mind that the bling is not as subtle as the images depict.

5 out of 5 stars Great watch   February 15, 2010
Richard S. Harris (Little Rock, USA)
Very good looking watch, i've had many compliments on it. It has a simple and beautiful design. This is a durable watch, no scratches to date. The only complaint is the knob to adjust the time and date has pulled out one notch without one knowing which stops the watch. Not a big deal you just have to reset the time. All in all a nice watch.

5 out of 5 stars The best Watch I ever had.   February 8, 2010
Leonardo Reyes Perez (Costa Rica)
WOW I'm so happy with this watch it's actually better than I expected. I starter with a Seiko 5 when i was 17 and was lost on wen I got rob. So I decided to by another Seiko battery one that last for like 5 years I end up with one of the first kinetics with the defective capacitor how ever it work fine for 7 years y then purchase a casio Solar tough, and a Citizen Eco-drive, they are nice, but I was not satisfied. so I end up buying this one and now I'm happy. What a Watch! excellent finish, the color makes it very unique and of course it's kinetic. the only one draw back here is that now I want a bunch of kinetics. I really recommend this one especially for collectors.
