It has a stainless steel case and features a black dial with three-hand function, easy-to-read bar markers, and an English/Spanish day/date window at the three o'clock position. Additional features include a screw-down case and crown, a scratch-resistant Hardlex crystal, and a one-way rotating bezel that safely keeps track of elapsed time. With its Lumibrite hands, markers, and bezel, this watch is easy to read in both light and dark conditions. The watch secures to a comfortable, extra-long, pressure-vented rubber strap that fastens with a buckle closure. Designed for diving, this watch is water-tested to 200 meters. It meets ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving.

Got my Monster yesterday. I got it with the bracelet band, which I highly recommend over the rubber band. Got it sized right away ($5 at a local jeweler) and it fits like glove. Nice heft to it. Looks terrific. Glows in the dark like a lightstick.
Check out all the reviews here, then look on youtube. There are some for the Black, but even more for it's sister- the Orange Monster. You can't go wrong here. Based on my research (I did quite a bit) I'm looking forward to many years of trouble free service. Like my title says- this watch is just awesome!

As a dive watch aficianado, I was happy to purchase the "iconic" Seiko Black Monster, a model that I understand is no longer produced by Seiko. The vast majority of the dive watches I own have case diameters of 44-51mm, and are 14-18mm,thick. So, according to the spec sheet listed on Amazon, I expected a watch with a case diameter of 47mm by 13mm. Well, they got it half-right--the watch is 13mm thick but is actually 42mm wide by 47mm tall, so not truly a false measurement per se; Compared to most of my other watches, this is actually a small diver, so, if anyone really likes the big beefy divers, you might find this watch a bit undersized. Otherwise, the watch is as advertised and, let's face it, Amazon offers a great deal on this watch.

This is a perfect watch for what I needed. It is simple, rugged, easy to read, no batteries to change, and looks better than I expected from the photograph. The dial is big enough there is no problem with reading it while diving. It also serves me well with other sporting activities.

i bought mine abut 1.5 years ago, and two days ago the watch started to have problem, now it run about 2 or 4 hours fast per day..cannot use it anymore.
have to return it and the repair website from amazon does not work. have to call them Monday and see how it goes.
update: i called this morning and was told to send this watch to "swinford jewelers" for repair, and surely i will pay the shipping.

A VERY WELL MADE WATCH FOR THE PRICE. THE SEIKO MONSTER IS ONE OF THE BEST WATCHES TO BUY. THE AUTOMATIC MECHANISM IS MORE ACCURATE NOW THAN IN THE PAST USING THE 7S26B. MY WATCH IS CURRENTLY LOSING ABOUT 3 SECONDS A DAY. THE MASSIVE STEEL CASE IS SOMETHING TO APPRECIATE FOR ITS QUALITY. FINALLY, THE ILLUMINATION AFTER BEING EXPOSED TO LIGHT CANNOT BE COMPARED. IT GLOWS IN THE DARK FOR MANY HOURS AFTER EXPOSURE TO LIGHT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. I GOT MINE ON SALE FOR $122.00, AND THAT WAS A GREAT PRICE FOR THE BLACK MONSTER.
